If you’re more interested in nature than canal engineering, the Monkey Island tour is one of the best half-day excursions from Panama City. Even if you don’t have time for a full canal tour, waking up to views of one of the world’s busiest shipping routes is a memorable experience.
Ride the Panama Canal Railway
If your schedule allows, don’t miss the Panama Canal Railway. It’s one of the world’s great historic train journeys! The route follows the Panama Canal through lush rainforest, alongside Gatún Lake, and past sections of the canal that most visitors never see from land.
Passenger service is limited and does not operate daily, so you’ll want to check the schedule before planning your trip. Special tourist departures are offered on select dates throughout the year.
