One of the things I love most about Panama is that you don’t need a huge budget to experience nature. Whether you want to hike through a tropical rainforest, spot monkeys in the wild, or spend the day surrounded by marine life, there are plenty of affordable adventures that are easy to add to your itinerary.
If you’re looking for unforgettable nature experiences, start with a Monkey Island tour on the Panama Canal. It’s one of the best ways to see monkeys in their natural habitat while cruising through the rainforest.
Next, head to Parque Natural Metropolitano, where you can hike through an actual tropical rainforest without ever leaving Panama City. This stop is unique because of its city viewpoints at the top of the hike. You get to experience a rainforest and an urban landscape all in one trip!
Finally, make your way to the Smithsonian Punta Culebra Nature Center, where you can learn about Panama’s marine ecosystems while keeping an eye out for sloths, iguanas, frogs, crabs and other wildlife.
Bonus: If you still have time, stop by Biomuseo. While it’s not a wildlife attraction, it’s one of the best places to learn why Panama is one of the most biodiverse countries on Earth. Plus, the colorful architecture, waterfront setting, and nearby nature trail make it worth adding to your day.
These are exactly the kinds of experiences that remind me why I love living in Panama. They’re affordable, easy to reach, and prove that some of the country’s best adventures happen long before you ever step foot on a beach.
